When I started planning D's birthday party I did what most moms in this day in age do--go to Pinterest! I found some great ideas there some of which I took as used as they had them and others that I used as inspiration :) I had a lot of fun getting this together and wanted to share what I did!
I saw a picture on pinterest of someone who used a melon baller and skewered a piece of watermelon, cantaloupe, and honeydew like a traffic light. I've never been great with a melon baller...so, I plated the fruit like this! worked great :)
All of the signs I used I got from this blog: http://www.allthingsgd.com/2013/07/free-cars-party-printables/ they worked well and I was able to take some of her templates and tweak them in word to make a tshirt for the birthday boy and make things the way I wanted them :)

It's hard to tell in the picture, but the one on the left is slighly more green (lemon-lime Gatorade) than the one on the right (lemonade).
I saw on a website I found through pinterest some back yard games that someone had set up for a birthday party using old tires...well, I didn't want to have to schlepp old tires around soooo I did what so many people these days do...went to amazon.com. I searched for "tire float" and found these pool inflatables that look like tires! I tied them together (okay, I asked my sister to to that) so that they wouldn't scatter as the children went through Doc Hudson's Obstacle Course. Barely pictured (lower right hand corner) is 2 inflated tires tied together (one as a base and one standing up) for Luigi's Bean Bag Toss.

The game favorite among the kids was Mater's Go Tow game. It is my "Cars" version of the Go Fish game that you'll often find at church fairs where there is someone hiding behind a booth and the children put the fishing rod over the side and "catch" a prize. I took a dowel rod and purchased a thick bungee cord. I rubber banded the bungee cord to the dowel rod and taped a small bag to the end of the hook. My brother was kind enough to man this game behind a folding table we put on its side. When the children put Mater's tow cable over the side of the table he put Cars fruit snacks or a piece of candy in the bag. This game was a big hit!
We also had Sally's Cozy Cone Hats where the kids decorated a piece of orange paper that we turned into a hat that resembled a traffic cone. We added string to it so it would stay on their heads better. At Ramone's House of Body Art my sister had a bunch of car themed temporary tattoos.
I used the template from http://www.allthingsgd.com/2013/07/free-cars-party-printables/ to make this shirt adding the "BIRTHDAY BOY," the line across, and the number 2 in word. Then I saved it as a pdf, then saved it as a jpeg so I could flip it (there was probably an easier way, I just don't know it) to print it on fabric transfer paper. I cut out the design and ironed it on the t shirt.
As each child came in they found their pit pass (also found on the website listed above). I bought ribbon (the good stuff) on sale and bought a bag of "Assorted Findings" in the kids craft section of Walmart to make these. I tried to glue the ribbon, but the glue wouldn't hold, so I ended up getting out the thread and needed and sewing them. It didn't take very long to do and they turned out great! Once I wrote the names on the pit passes, I used contact paper to make them a little more sturdy, punched a hole on the top and put them on. :) They held up wonderfully! A couple of pit passes fell off their lanyards during the party (honestly not quite sure how those kiddos managed to do that), but the hole wasn't ripped so we were able to slip them right back on.
It was a very fun day...and a very fun party to set up! :)
